FISCHE was founded in 2002. It arose out of a need for Catholic homeschooling families to meet on a regular basis in order to form lasting, faithfilled relationships among children as well as parents.
Although the group has grown exponentially, our mission remains the same. We are committed to helping new and returning homeschooling families find a community of support and friendship that is built upon the cornerstone of our Catholic faith.
Although FISCHE activities are geared for Catholic homeschooling families with kids ages 5-12, younger (or older) siblings can attend most events. Our activities differ from year to year as we try to organize new events as well as maintain our yearly traditions such as the Blessings Mass, Not Back to School party and Valentine Bowling. We always welcome new ideas and do our best to work as a team to bring them to reality. Parents are encouraged to help plan and implement our events as they can have anywhere from 20 to 75 kids participating! We also have special workshops that are run by our FISCHETeens which provide a combination of fun, formation, and mentorship.
Monthly field trips are a great part of our recurring activities. Our Field Trip Coordinator does a wonderful job organizing a wide variety of field trips which the whole family can enjoy. While many of our field trips are local, we also branch out to the many beautiful surrounding areas to learn about new and interesting places. Kids always have a great time exploring new things alongside their homeschool peers and the group rates and guided tours are always an added bonus.
All our FISCHE and FISCHETeen events take place on Fridays throughout the school year with very few exceptions. All members are encouraged to attend 12:15 p.m. Mass together with our FISCHETeens at St. William Catholic Church, our sponsoring parish. Playgroup meeting times are in the afternoon and locations vary.
As parents we understand the importance of healthy friendships for our kids and ourselves. Our playgroups allow children to interact with other like-minded children in a fun unstructured environment with the added bonus of giving mom some grown-up time with other homeschool moms. Playgroups are a great way to end a hard week of school and just the affirmation moms need to renew, refresh, and recommit to their homeschool journey.
